Reservoir’s picturesque Edwardes Lake Park will once again host the perennial favourite, the Darebin Community and Kite Festival. The 2016 event promises to be the most immersive festival yet, with a jam-packed day of fun, free, and engaging activities for all ages. The day will feature performances, workshops, community & food stalls, storytelling, a pet expo, roving entertainment, and of course, kite flying!
Festival highlights will include the main stage program, MC’d by local comedian Nelly Thomas with headline act, Iranian-born Darebin local Neda, who will lead her ensemble in performing the Afro-Brazilian beats and high-energy dance numbers of the All Colour Project. Over on the Freeza youth music stage, emerging Darebin musicians will be showcased.
For the first time, the Festival will also present a storytelling tent and conversation corner, featuring some of the city’s best writers and illustrators. Or, if your kids fancy themselves more as the author, 100 Story Building and Kids Own Publishing will be on hand to help them create their own stories.
There will be plenty of fun for children and families alike, ranging from kite-making, circus and face painting workshops, shadow puppetry, a silent disco and a superhero obstacle course (capes provided!).
